Top beauty gifts for the holidays
November 6, 2009 | 11:05 am
Jeffrey Fetzer is a celebrated hair and makeup artist in Hollywood. He’s appeared on several talk shows and most recently served up the hottest trend tips on TV Guide Network’s 2009 “Countdown to the Emmy Awards.” Currently, he’s busy at work on photo shoots, having just completed his latest endeavor, Myface, an iPhone app available by mid-November. He recently gave us his top picks for what to get your loved ones for the holidays.
In a quandary over what to get mom, sis or girlfriend? Recently in North Hollywood, I stopped by one of my favorite haunts, Frends Beauty Supply. It’s offering a fantastic holiday special: a beautiful gift basket with all the trimmings and 25% off your entire purchase! It’s your choice as to what goes into the basket or the store will design one for you.
It all started for DuWop with a product called “lip venom,” which actually plumps the lips immediately. Now it has a full cosmetic line and I have to say that my favorite thing is its EyeCatcher eyeliners. They go on so smoothly, never smudge, yet are easy to blend, with some wonderful color choices. You’ll have fun mixing and matching with their eyeshadow pallets. The new lip venom called Moon Venom is ever so powerful. All I can say is, wear this with caution: Packs of suitors will stand in line for that holiday kiss! EyeCatcher eyeliner is $18.50 and Moon Venom is $17.
Indulge with sophisticated Kevyn Aucoin Beauty cream eyeshadows, which come in a variety of shades with quite a punch of color and a no-nonsense approach to application. The best way is to dip your brush into the pot and dab it on the eyelid with soft taps. Women will love it because they don’t need to be a professional artist to use this product successfully; it spreads easily and never goes on wrong. My pick for the holidays is Sparkle, which gives the eye a smokey look with hints of dark blue and kohl black. Available at Sephora for $27.
Every woman wants her skin to look its best at all times. Pamper her with Perfection Skin Care products, which definitely live up to their name. Firming Day Hydration moisturizer, with the highest content of hyaluronic acid, is a favorite of all the stars. It instantly reduces fine lines and leaves the skin feeling and looking very youthful. Available at Perfection for $70.
Stila, a staple of mine for years, has some wonderful classic products, plus always something interesting coming out. Dazzle friends with its All Over Shimmer, a liquid product that has a built-in applicator. My advice is to brush it all over the shoulders when wearing something strapless, and on the legs to give a beautiful warm glow. You can also blend a few drops into foundation to obtain a very subtle hue, making everyone wonder what you’ve been doing to look so good! Available at Stila for $22.
Hair care is so important for both women and men. Lavish her (or him) with the versatile Nectar of the Gods, which stands alone as a deep conditioner, color sealer or leave-in conditioner for all hair types. It controls frizz and gives body and fullness to fine hair. I’ve used Nectar of the Gods on many actors and actresses. Hours under those hot lights tend to dry out their hair. Nectar of the Gods protects hair and leaves it looking healthy with a natural shine. It actually penetrates hair, to nourish and restore dull, lifeless, damaged tresses to the look and feel you want. Available at Frends for $39.10.
Must have list: holiday beauty products
November 17, 2009 | 8:14 am
Several weeks ago, hair and make-up artist Jeffrey Fetzer listed his top beauty products for the holidays. He follows up with some additional items he thinks serve as the perfect gifts for the season.
If your mom likes to travel, DLSH has the cleverest all-in-one cosmetic bag called ‘The Actor Bag.’ You’ll find compartments for eye pencils, lipsticks, foundations, tissues, etc. Small enough to put in a tote bag, it’s great for the plane, train or car. I’ve used this bag on many movie sets, and now they’re available to select retailers, so get them while they’re still in store because they go fast. Available at Frends for $39.96.
The newest foundations to hit the market are by the Japanese company KohGenDo. They’ve developed a smooth foundation that doesn’t lay on the surface, but rather goes into the skin, leaving a flawless complexion; no one will know you’re wearing makeup. Available for purchase at the KohGenDo website.
For women on the go, Chantecaille has a beautiful signature case with an amazing highlighter that creates a natural glow for a radiant touch of light when applied to both the cheekbones and eyelids. I’ve long been a big fan of their lip gloss. This time around there’s Reve de Rose, a smooth and intensely hydrating lip gloss that’s loaded with aloe, chamomile, Vitamin E with SPF 15. Their wand liquid eyeliner is exquisite. There are several shades to choose from and you get a really smooth, straight line that will stay that way all day or all night long. Lip gloss is $36 and liquid eyeliner is $22, both available at the Chantecaille website.
Philip Pelusi Products have been available at high-end salons for several years. Tela is their new, totally organic line that is USDA approved and is selling online and in many stores throughout the United States. My favorites are their shampoos and conditioners, which smell divine and leave hair smelling so amazingly clean and fresh. Delight the lady in your life with a very cool product called Beach Comber that actually smells like fresh oranges! It looks like a pomade but when applied to the hair, it dries the way you styled it. Check the Philip Pelusi website to find locations near you that sell their products.
To help your hair sparkle like a newborn snowflake on New Year’s Eve, treat yourself (after all this gift-buying, you deserve it!) to MoroccanOil’s ‘Restoration Hair Mask’ with Argan Oil that is rich in Vitamin F (Omega 6), Vitamin A and E. A rinse-off deep treatment that you apply after shampoo and leave in for 5-7 minutes will make your hair feel reborn! A great trick is to take about a teaspoonful of MoroccanOil and mix it into the mask to add extra shine and leave the hair incredibly soft and manageable. See the official website to find a location near you that sells their products.

What is hot this season..

Summer is right around the corner and we all want smooth and glowing skin! We tend to wear skimpier clothes, show more skin, and spent more time on the beach or by the pool. I have found Mac’s new collection for different hair colors to be very fun plus very easy for the beginners. Read more

This is my new blog for that matter my first blog. I have beeen giving this some thought for quite awhile, I want to give what I feel is the correct information to women, I want to form a trust between you and myself. Our goals are the same, the approach may be different but we will end up in a good place .
For years I have had people always stop and ask me what color hair should I have? What sort of cut, style? Is my foundation the right color? What is the best shade of lipstick? It all comes down to one little thing, wear what you are comfortable wearing, you do not have to be a trend setter, model, actress to still look good.
When I am working on jobs, the client is paying myself and the models or actress to look a certain way, therefore we do what they want, but this look may not be for you or for that matter look good on you. It is always best to ask yourself, “How much time am I willing to spend on myself each day before i face the world” Many moms are to busy with there children and husbands to get all dolled up in the a.m, so when things finally quite down, go into the bathroom or wherever you have your beauty stash and freshen up a bit. I can remember as a child when my mom would go into her bathroom to put on a face before my dad would come home from work, I think he must have thought she looked like that all day. Ahh the tricks women have.
Many of you women that are reading my blog are probably looking for a change, always start with the top first..meaning your hair, if the color is going to change then the foundation and colors you choose for you face are going to be different, maybe only slightly but still different. The warm tones, cool tones and hair color can be tricky.
I have said in the beginning this is my first blog, I will be working with it over the next few weeks getting the rough edges off, but I am here to help and I am looking forward to meeting new friends as well as staying in contact with my fellow artist. I will not take credit for all that appears in my blogs, many artist and additional bloggers have been helpful in providing information for what I feel is important to my readers.
